MORE INFORMATION ON THE AYURVEDIC HEALING COURSE
Ayurveda is the traditional natural healing system of India going back over five thousand years. It is the medical aspect of the Yoga tradition and contains the secrets of both inner and outer well-being. Ayurveda is now recognized as one of the most important systems of mind-body medicine available and its popularity is spreading throughout the world.
Ayurveda considers all aspects of healing from diet and herbs to mantra and meditation as a complete holistic system of medicine. It is truly the medicine of the coming planetary age, with almost no limits to its growth and application in the modern health situation, where Ayurvedic like methods of disease prevention and proper life-style are becoming important considerations for everyone.
NATURE OF COURSE
This comprehensive program covers all the main aspects of Ayurvedic theory, diagnosis and practice. The Ayurvedic Healing course is not just an introduction to Ayurveda but a full training program on Ayurveda in all of its branches. There is no comparable course of its depth, extent and amount of material in its price range.
The course has a special emphasis on herbal medicine, using western as well as Indian herbs, providing an accessible model for treatment in the West. It explains diet and food in great detail as well. The course adds to these physical modalities a higher dimension of Yoga and Ayurvedic psychology, showing an integral mind-body approach that includes spiritual and psychological methods, with colors, aromas, gems, asana, pranayama, mantra and meditation.
There is almost no aspect of life that the course does not address in a practical way for healing and transformation. It contains the main material covered in most two year Ayurveda classroom programs in the West. It is not merely introductory but goes into great depth into its subject and will remain as an excellent reference guide for the student for years to come.
The course is designed for Health Care Professionals as well as serious students of all kinds. It has been taken by Doctors, Chiropractors, Nurses, Acupuncturists, Herbalists, Massage Therapists, Yoga Therapists, and Psychologists. However, there is no required medical background for those wishing to take the course and many non-professionals have completed it successfully. The course qualifies a person to function as an 'Ayurvedic Life-Style Counselor'. The course is a self-study course and allows the student to go at their own pace.
There are no specific prerequistes for taking the course, except that the student should realize that the course can be challenging and is not simply introductory.
GOAL OF COURSE
The goal of the course is to provide students a foundation for becoming Ayurvedic practitioners, starting them off at the level of Ayurvedic Life-Style counselors, assessing Ayurvedic constitutional types and how to treat them and their common diseases through daily health regimens of diet, herbs, yoga, meditation andl life-style recommendations. It is an inexpensive alternative for those who cannot afford or do not have the time for more expensive classroom or clinical instruction. It can also serve as a first step for those who want to continue such more direct study later. It serves to train the student in Ayurvedic life-style counseling that can be used as a basis for more technical Ayurvedic treatment approaches.
Since 1988 over five thousand people worldwide have taken the course, which is the most comprehensive distance learning program on this subject offered in the West. It is the basis of Ayurvedic classes taught in the United States, Europe, Brazil and India.
COURSE AUTHOR
The course is authored by Dr. David Frawley (Pandit Vamadeva Shastri), uses his books on Ayurveda, and represents his approach to Ayurveda, adapting Ayurveda to the modern world without losing its spiritual integrity. Dr. Frawley's books and courses on Ayurveda and Vedic knowledge are the most extensive publications in their fields available in the West today. Dr. Frawley teaches Ayurveda along with modern dietary considerations and the use of both Western and traditional Ayurvedic herbs. He integrates Ayurveda with the practice of Yoga and meditation and with the spiritual approach of the Vedas.
Dr. Frawley has worked and taught with leading Ayurvedic doctors and experts including Deepak Chopra, Vasant Lad, Sunil Joshi, Subhash Ranade, Avinash Lele, David Simon, John Douillard, Dr. Jose Rugue, Michael Tierra, and Edward Tarabilda. He has been specially honored for his contribution to Ayurveda by the National Ayurvedic Medical Association of the United States (NAMA). His work is highly regarded in India and his books are widely translated in European languages as well.
