Vegetarianism and Hinduism – Audio

Dr David Frawley (Pandit Vamadeva Shastri) discussion vegetarianism in Hinduism. This subject is complex and ranges from local customs to recommendations for yoga practice. India with its vast size and numerous peoples and cultures has a history of a variety of dietary habits. While vegetarianism was honored by many groups, particularly for spiritual practices and temple worship, many food types were taken as per necessity and convenience. While one does not have to be vegetarian to be a Hindu we should recognize that vegetarianism has been widely honored in Hindu Dharma and recommended by a number of gurus and sects (sampradayas).
